Abstract: Abstract:The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary (fifth edition) includes 72 “bu+X” disyllabic verbs but the author thinks that the 72 disyllabic verbs do not conform to the judgment criterion of Chinese disyllabic verbs, and in this paper he describes the wordformation process of disyllabic verbs. The study shows that only “bu hui” and “bu xing” can be included as disyllabic verbs, while the other 70 “bu X” verbs should not be included. The viewpoint that “if ‘X’ has no antonym ‘Y’, then ‘bu X’ is the antonym of ‘X’” put forward by Mr. Lv Shuxiang violates the logic principle of adequate conditional hypothesis reasoning, which cannot prove the “bu X” disyllabic composition forms a word.
Key words: “bu+X”, verb, lexicalization, antonym, hypothesis reasoning
