Abstract: The usage of color word category in six selected pieces of classic preQin scholar prose is summed and analyzed. We analyze the collocation of color words，and explain their semantics，and find out the grammatical and cognitive characteristics of the color words in preQin times. Grammatical features can be seen in the emergence of large numbers of color terms，the gradual increase of color verbs and adverb modifiers. In the cognitive sense，the six categories of color began to take shape，and cognition of colors was not evenly allotted to all the six categories. More precise cognition was given to white，black and red colors，and more specific and vivid of metaphor of color terms were used then.
