Abstract: The unique contents in Daisaku Ikeda’s thoughts about dignity of life bear some distinct characteristics. First Ikeda’s thoughts about dignity of life bring together the essence of Eastern and Western culture, concerning with both the survival and the inner world of human being. He also stresses the absolute supremacy of the dignity oflife, emphasizing that the most important in the universe is life, and the most important thing in life is dignity. The third feature of Ikeda’s thoughts is his emphasis on the unity of theory and action, advocating both serious theoretical research, but also application of theory into the social practice. Ikeda establishes the theoretical basis of the dignity of life and provides cosmology proof for the dignity of life. Daisaku Ikeda’s thoughts about dignity of life teach us that the dignity of life should be regarded as the supreme principle of the modern value system.
