A Discussion on Achieving Sustainable Development ofthe Confucius Institutes in the United States

Abstract: China has launched 81 Confucius Institutes in the United States since 2004,which have made important contributions to China’s foreign exchange and cooperation. This paper,taking Confucius Institute at the University of Iowa as an example,summarizes its successful experiences,current influences and developing trends,by means of interviews carried out by the author. The author,drawing upon promoting practices of other languages’ (as the second language),puts forward corresponding suggestions on sustainable development of the Confucius Institutes in the United States.
