Abstract:

Objective：To evaluate the short-term efficacy of percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy in the treatment of
lumbar disk herniation. Methods：This study selected randomly 30 patients with single-segment lumbar disk herniation on whom
percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic nucleus pulposus discectomy was conducted from February 2015 to June 2016. The clinical
efficacy of treatment was evaluated by using the pain visual analog scale（VAS score）and the criteria of the improved Macnab.
Results：All the surgeries on the 30 patients were successfully completed with the operation time of 60-120 min and blood loss of 30-
60 mL. The postoperative VAS score within one day, one week and three months after surgery was significantly lower than the
preoperative one. The comparative result（P＜0.01） showed significantly statistical differences. According to the criteria of the
improved Macnab evaluation, the excellence rate was much higher with excellent in 23 cases and good in 4 cases, and the rate of
excellent and good was 90%. There were no complications such as dural rupture, nerve root injury, infection and other complications in
all patients, and MRI examination showed that the protrusion of intervertebral discs basically disappeared. Conclusion：Percutaneous
lumbar disc herniation is a safe and effective way to treat the patients with lumbar disc herniation with less trauma, less blood loss,
faster rehabilitation, shorter postoperative hospital stay and other advantages alike.
