Abstract: The National Southwestern Associated University has become a history, but it used to be the spiritual home and a poetic
habitat of the teachers, students and scholars. After a study on the University during the Resistance War against Japanese, we found
that its cultural value is embedded in the spirit of "May-Fourth Movement" that was initiated by National Peking University, National
Tsing Hua University and other universities in 1919. During the 8 years in Kunming, the universities' success in jointly running the
Associated University is inseparable from the close relationships between students and teachers, and also the students' community
activities. Students' communities had flourished the May- Fourth Spirit in various forms such as community activities, literature
activities, posters publications, and commemorative activities, which had inherited and developed the spirit of May-Fourth, enriched
the connotation of the spirit, become the most solid "bastion of democracy", laid the foundation of democratic development, and left a
precious legacy for the later generations.
