Abstract:

Objective： To explore whether there is a significant difference in the effect and comfort of oxygen therapy between conventional humidification and non-humidification of low-medium flow oxygen inhalation through nasal oxygen tube for middle-aged and elderly people. Methods： A total of 420 middle-aged and elderly patients receiving long-term low-medium flow oxygen inhalation in the geriatric department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Dali University from July 2020 to February 2021 were selected as the study objects. They were divided into humidified and non-humidified groups by random number table method. Both groups received continuous low-medium flow oxygen inhalation through nasal oxygen tube for more than 12 hours per day. Results： There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of sputum volume， percutaneous arterial oxygen saturation， sensation of the nasopharynx， and odor sensation of oxygen during oxygen inhalation（P>0.05）. The satisfaction of the two groups was also similar with no statistically significant difference（P>0.05）. Conclusion： Humidification is not necessary in the process of routine low-medium flow oxygen inhalation through nasal oxygen tube for middle-aged and elderly people.
