习语是语言在漫长岁月中沉淀下来的精华，其形式简明扼要，但是表达的意思却很深刻。它们与社会、历史、宗教等诸多文化因素有着千丝万缕的关联。对比中英两种语言中的习语可以发现，两者间存在着一些差异。造成这些差异的深层原因主要源于文化的影响，其中包含了文化倾向、自然地理、风俗习惯和宗教信仰等诸多文化元素。所以要透彻地研究习语就要挖掘隐藏在它们之后的文化元素。
Over the long course of history, idioms established themselves as the gem of language with concise form but profound meaning. Moreover, they are linked to society, history and religion intimately. It can be found that idioms from English and Chinese correspond with each other to different extent by comparison. The deep roots which influence their differences lie in cultural factors,including cultural inclination, geography, custom and religious beliefs and the like. Therefore the intensive study of idioms is to find out the cultural influents behind them.
