接受美学强调读者在阅读和接受过程中的积极参与作用。在悲剧审美中，不能只满足于阐析文本中作者所给出或提示
的意象，应该在阅读文本后，在归纳的基础上通过读者自身的想象加工成新的意象。从接受美学看，读者在观照了《李尔王》一剧后，能动地形成了人物命运变化的“瀑布”意象，并与悲剧本身在读者身上引起的一系列情感反应一起构成了“瀑布”效果。其人物命运变化的“瀑布”具有几个特点：“瀑布”的巨大落差性、垂直无迂回性和粉碎性，这些特点在作为主体的读者心理上产生了震惊、恐惧、崇高，并引起观者对人物命运变化这整个事件的深思。而且，这幅壮丽的“瀑布”图景给读者以强烈的美感。
The Reception Aesthetics puts its emphasis on reader's participation in the process of reading and reception. On the base of induction, readers shouldn't be content with the image the author conveys. This image should be transformed into new image by readers themselves after reading books in tragic aesthetics. After mindfulness of King Lear, readers actively form the "waterfall" image of character fate's change, and a series of emotional reaction constitutes "waterfall" effect，which is happened to readers combined with tragedy itself. The waterfall of character fate's change manifests some features, such as massive drop, perpendicularity and smashes. These features give rise to shock, horror and sublime in readers' psychology, and make readers to ponder deeply over the whole incident. Besides, this magnificent picture of "waterfall" gives readers strong aesthetic feeling.
