Abstract: Based on Kress and Leeuwen's theoretical framework of visual grammar, this paper offered a multimodal discourse analysis on The Comics of Network Buzzwords in 2015 from three meta-functional meanings: representational meaning, interactive meaning and compositional meaning. This paper analyzed the representational meaning of the comics from the perspective of narrative representation and conceptual representation; the interactive meaning of the comics from the perspective from contact, social distance, attitude and modality and compositional meaning of the comics from the perspective of information value, salience and framing. Thus, the viewers of the comics are put into a visual communication context, in which the viewer of the comics can interpret the comics from the multiple modes or multiple channels to deepen the understanding of the comics.
