Abstract: Compeer group counseling is one of the most important approaches in mental health education of college students. Content
analysis is used on self-reports of 105 group members taking part in compeer group counseling, and the results shows that: ① College
students participate in compeer group counseling mainly because of their inner motivations such as the desires for self-change and selfgrowth,
or because of their positive personalities such as curiosity and trust; ② The benefits of college students' participation in
compeer group counseling are mainly reflected in self-improvement and promotion of interpersonal relationships; ③ The reasons why
college students can benefit from compeer group counseling are positive group events such as communication and feedbacks from
peers, and a positive, warm and friendly group atmosphere. The findings can shed some light on mental health education of college
students.
