A Review of Sweden's Revised Curriculum for Preschool (2019)

Abstract:

In response to recent changes within the country and external pressure from international organizations, Sweden revised the Curriculum for Preschool and implemented it from July 1, 2019. The structure of the new document is clearer, and its basic values pay more attention to equality, children's participation and sustainable development. In the part of tasks and goals of the kindergarten, it increased the content of "care, development and learning". The work responsibilities and requirements of the principal, teachers, work teams and other educational workers are more detailed. Combining with the changes and directions in our country’s current kindergarten curriculum reform and the characteristics of the newly revised Swedish document, the kindergarten curriculum reform should pay attention to the follow-up impact of children’s participation, education for sustainable development, system evaluation, and children’s equality.
