Abstract: Processability Theory (PT) defines the level of second language development from the perspective of cognitive processing.
It is closely related to the learning environment, acquisition order, acquisition criteria and first language transfer, and has become one of the most important theories of second language acquisition. To some extent, the development of the theory of language processing represents the trend of the study of acquisition order. Based on the basic concepts and theoretical framework of Processability Theory, this paper further reviews the empirical studies on the theory and learning environment, acquisition order, language typology and other factors, so as to explores the unity and divergence between the level of language processing and the order of second language acquisition in terms of syntactic units, language types and interlanguage systems. Finally, this paper summarizes the development characteristics of the theory in the study of second language acquisition and puts forward the development trend of the theory in the study of second language acquisition sequence.
