Abstract:

As one of the pioneers of stream of consciousness novels and feminist literature, British modernist writer Woolf created many female artist characters in her stream-of-consciousness novels. These characters reflected in general the patriarchal suppression and art reception obstacles faced with the female artists. In her novel theory, Woolf made exploration of these problems in female artists’ art creation and tried to find solutions. Female artists in her works are typical characters at different ages. They are the links between her novels and her novel theory and provide us with a new perspective for the research of her novels and novel theory.

Key words: Woolf, female artists, patriarchal suppression, androgyny, art reception, stream-of-consciousness novel
