A Study on Education Problems of Left-behind Children in Rural Areas
from the Viewpoint of Educational Equality

Abstract:

As surplus working forces immigrate from rural areas to urban areas,a large number of rural children were left in the
countryside by their parents for various reasons,which creates a new social group: left-behind rural children in rural areas. The
great disparities in starting point,process and result of education between left-behind rural children and urban children have
brought great impact on equality of education,construction of new rural areas and harmony of society. Social and economic
structure,bias in public education policy and the marketization of education are the major causes for education problems for
left-behind children. To solve the problem,it is necessary to establish a mechanism for teachers to work in rural schools in
shifts,to improve school conditions in rural areas,and to employ media resources so that left-behind rural children can enjoy
equal education opportunity.
