A Comparative Case Study on the Language Identity of Burmese in Dehong

摘要:

[摘要] 德宏是典型的多民族、多语、多言地区,同样具有多语文化背景的来德宏缅籍人员面临着多语环境适应及在语言使用和习得中重构语言身份。语言认同的不同维度对身份认同的支持力不完全同步。缅籍来德宏人员的语言身份认同突出地表现在对强势语(汉语普通话、缅语和英语)的认同高于方言,语言使用模式趋向于以汉语普通话为主的多语模式,对英语的心理和价值认同高于其“身份”赋值认同,祖籍地方言与本地方言的互通度对使用者的本地方言认同有积极作用。

Abstract:

〔Abstract〕 Dehong Prefecture of Yunnan Province is typical of multi-ethnics, multi-languages and multi-dialects. When Burmese with multilingual cultural background come to Dehong, they enter another multilingual environment and face a new language adaptation and identity building. This case comparative study on a Burmese Chinese and a Burmese in Dehong shows that the measure dimensions for language identity do not have the equal force, that powerful languages have a higher influential force in the language identity construction, that a multilingual mode with mandarin Chinese as a prior language is adopted, that English is evaluated to have higher emotional and functional value than its value in "identity", and that mutual intelligibility between the speaker's ancestor dialects and the local dialect has a positive function in language identity construction.
