Abstract: The choice in translation pervades the entire translation activity. Choosing what to translate, who will translate and how to
translate are all extremely important. Taking the translation choices of the Dai ethnic long narrative poem Not a Dog as the research
object, this paper analyzes the internal and external factors of this text's translation choices and discusses how the cultural stance of
translator Rewi Alley influences his choice of translation strategies in the translation process. This study can provide a reference for the
selection of texts and translators as well as translation strategy formulation for contemporary ethnic literature and culture.
