With the further progress of the cultural system reform in China, a host of questions in the field of nonmaterial culture have already been put forward on the agenda. For this reason local operas including Yunnan Lantern Opera, are now facing opportunities and challenges. The essay is thus meant to provide people with insights into the developing trend of Yunnan Lantern Opera in several aspects such as historical evolution, artistic characteristics, performance forms and contents, and puts forwards concrete unique suggestions for the protection and development of Yunnan Lantern Opera.
