The Survey of Bai Language Using Status and Its Language Attitude

Through investigating 430 people from 86 families in three villages included MaChang, XiaoCheng & Luo WeiYi, which lie in Heqing county and Dali respectively, the paper discusses language using status and its cause on the use of Bai native language, Chinese dialect and standard Chinese in the local place by three variable quantities, namely language, age and gender. It finds that villagers have open attitudes toward the languages, more specifically, they accept identity function and emotional function of Bai language; approve the local Chinese dialect and stand mandarin; believe Bai language and Chinese function can complement each other and have positive attitude toward "Bai-Chinese language education ", but have gloomy sentiment to " Bai -Chinese text education".
