Abstract: From the perspective of religious studies, research in Buddhist historical geography focuses on the studies of religion itself, explores the regional characteristics and spatial expression of Buddhist culture, and pays attention to the relationship between the basic elements of religious emotional experience, behavioral activities, organizational systems and geographical events. Buddhist historical geography research should focus on the interdisciplinary application of other disciplines. In addition to the use of religious, historical, and geographical research methods, we must actively learn from anthropological, sociological, archaeological, and cultural methods, and at the mean time, apply academic theories and technical means such as local attachment and population differentiation to enrich the research methods of Buddhist historical geography and improve the research level.
Key words: Buddhism, historical geography, research methods and perspectives
