Spatial Differences and Impact Factors on Protection Awareness of Local Residents in Baimaxueshan

Abstract:

Interview survey on protection awareness of local residents was conducted during September 2014 to October 2015 in
Baimaxueshan. 1 192 people from 60 villages were interviewed and 1 139 valid data was obtained. Statistical analysis showed that
there are elevation differences on conservation knowledge value of locals（CKVL）, and distribution of conservation stations and
distance to nature reserve may also contributed on CKVL difference. Moreover, there are age and sex difference on CKVL, older people
and males have higher CKVL than others. Result from this study suggested that nature reserve and its conservation stations do have
active impact by conservation education; however, conservation education should avoid the pattern of simple broadcasting, a good plan
should cover area and population well and prepare proper content for targeting population.
