Abstract: Objective:Toinvestigatetheclinicaleffectsofserum procalcitonininpatientswhosufferedseveretraffictraumaonYunnan- Tibet Highway. Methods: From January 2015 to December 2017, 1 396 patients with severe head injuries, liver and spleen ruptures, thoracoabdominal injuries or multiple injuries who were admitted to 32268 Army of Chinese PLA after traffic accidents on Yunnan-Tibet Highway were selected and observed for PCT, blood culture and secretion culture. The value of PCT in diagnosing the infections of patients who suffered severe traffic trauma on Yunnan-Tibet Highway was analyzed. Results: The PCT level of patients in the infected group was significantly higher than that in the control group[(5.38±2.71)vs.(0.56±0.42)ng/mL, P<0.01]; the area under ROC curve of PCT in the diagnosis of patients who suffered severe traffic trauma on Yunnan-Tibet Highway was[0.897(0.778-0.981), P < 0.01]; The positive rate of blood culture was 16.39% and PCT was 80.60% in the infected group after 24 hours of fever. PCT level of patients infected with gram-negative bacilli was significantly higher than that of patients infected with gram-positive bacilli. Conclusion: PCT can be used as a diagnostic index for infections of patients who suffered severe traffic trauma on Yunnan-Tibet Highway.
