Abstract: 〔Abstract〕Objective: To explore the in vitro lipid-lowering activity of 18 Leguminosae plants in west Yunnan, and to provide a
scientific basis for the discovery of novel hypolipidemic drugs from plants. Methods: 18 Leguminosae plants were extracted with
75% ethanol by heat reflux. High-fat HepG2 cell model was used to screen the lipid-lowering activity of the crude extracts in vitro,
and the bioactive results were evaluated by lipid-lowering rates. Results: 13 plant extracts showed lipid-lowering activity in
different degrees. Among them, the aerial parts of Glycyrrhiza yunnanensis, the whole herb of Lespedeza cuneata, the underground
parts of Astragalus polycladus var. nigrescens and the aerial parts of Bauhinia brachycarpa, showed significant activities to inhibit
lipid accumulation, with inhibition ratios of (21.6±3.9)% , (19.6±10.0)% , (17.8±1.9)% and (15.3±4.6)% , respectively, at
concentration of 0.5 mg/mL. Conclusion: The aerial parts of Glycyrrhiza yunnanensis, the whole herb of Lespedeza cuneata, the
underground parts of Astragalus polycladus var. nigrescens and the aerial parts of Bauhinia brachycarpa, have good lipid-lowering
activity, which is worth a further study.
