Abstract:

Objective To reveal the complete chloroplast genome characteristics of a medicinal plant in Tibetan region namely Lamiophlomis rotate and explore its phylogenetic position. Methods In this study the Next-Generation Sequencing technology was adopted to perform DNA sequencing for this species and its complete chloroplast genome was obtained after assembly and annotation. Meanwhile the genome characteristics were revealed and its phylogeny was systematically analyzed combined with the published chloroplast genomes of related species in Lamiaceae. Results The complete chloroplast genome of L. rotata was a typical quadripartite structure the total length of which was totally 151 808 bp and 107 genes were annotated. The topological structures between the BayesianBI and the maximum likelihoodML were extremely similar proving that Lamiophlomis and Stachys were gathered into one clade. Conclusion The complete chloroplast genome characteristics of L. rotata were revealed for the first time and its phylogenetic study supported the traditional treatment of regarding Lamiophlomis and Stachys as closely related genera. This study could provide scientific basis for studies such as species identification resource conservation and phyletic evolution of L. rotata and related species.
