The Relationship between Rumination and Suicide Risk: A Regulatory Mediation Model

Abstract:

In order to explore the relationship between rumination hopelessness emotional self-efficacy and suicide risk a total of 638 college students were assessed with the Rumination Response Scale-Chinese Version Beck Hopelessness Scale Regulatory Emotional Self-Efficacy Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised. The study found that suicide risk was significantly positively related to rumination and hopelessness and negatively correlated with emotional regulation self-efficacy. Hopelessness played a partial mediating role in the relation between rumination and suicide risk emotional self-efficacy moderated the relation between rumination and hopelessness the first half of mediating effect), that is emotional self-efficacy may buffer the influence of rumination on hopelessness thus reducing suicide risk.
