Analysis of Fecal Occult Blood Test in a Second Class A Hospital in Kunming City

Abstract:

ObjectiveTo analyze the common causes of fecal occult blood based on the results of fecal occult blood test in a second class A hospital in Kunming City. MethodsThe results of fecal occult blood test using monoclonal antibody method were retrospectively analyzed in 2 000 samples from a second class A hospital in Kunming City from January to February 2021. ResultsAmong the 2 000 samplesthe positive rate of fecal occult blood test was 24.30%and the positive rate of fecal occult blood test in patients under 50 years old was the highest43.51%. The positive rate of fecal occult blood test in patients older than 50 years increased with age the positive rate of patients aged 80 to 89 decreased slightly. ConclusionDigestive hemorrhagic diseasegastrointestinal malignancy and the use of some drugs can lead to positive results in fecal occult blood test. The clinician needs to identify the cause when analyzing positive results of fecal occult blood in patients. For those who are highly suspected of digestive tract bleedingif the results of fecal occult blood test by monoclonal antibody method are negativethe fecal sample should be further diluted and retested to avoid false negative results and delay disease diagnosis and treatment.
