The referent of a word usually forms a certain mental image in people s mind according to cognitive experience．which
can be called semantic picking．By analyzing the sense of”mouth，face”，it can be found that two words may have roughly equal meaning due to the constraint of deep cognitive factors，although they distinguish themselves from each other by different mental images and respective features in people S cognitive system．This profoundly influences the combination and development of word meaning，and benefits the self—regulation and balance semantic system．To focus on the semantic picking of words offers a new perspective to achieve meaning analysis，provides explanation for the combination and development of word meaning，and supplies a new idea tor differentiating and analyzing synonyms．
