Abstract:

Objective: To explore the HIV/AIDS epidemic characteristics in Xiangyun during 2004-2011 and provide scientific basis
for HIV/AIDS prevention. Methods: HIV/AIDS data during 2004 -2011 in Xiangyun County were analyzed with descriptive
epidemiological method. Results: Total 389 cases of HIV/AIDS were reported and 58 cases were fatal. The annual average report rate
was 10.61 per 100 000 populations. The rate was gradually increased in 2004-2007. The rate in township was higher than that in
mountain area. The male to female ratio was 2.27:1. Most cases occurred in age of 20~40 years. There were 293 cases of peasants
(82.4%) and 97.13% cases of illiteracy with less education of junior high school, 5.76% cases of sexual contact and 38.56% cases of
intravenous drug. Conclusion: With the implementation of the Global Fund for AIDS control project, Xiangyun AIDS epidemic has
been initially curbed. Due to the complexity of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the diversity of the route of infection, we must strengthen the
publicity of AIDS prevention knowledge to improve universal awareness of AIDS prevention; focusing on farmers, unemployed youth
and education to strengthen the management of the floating population; further improve counseling and testing network, improve the
discovery of AIDS, in order to effectively control the spread of AIDS.
