Marriage-for-Peace Policy of Tang Dynasty to Nanzhao Kingdom

Abstract:

In ancient China,central dynasty governed minority and ethnic areas through "Jimi" Policy,which included the
"Marriage-for-Peace" Policy. Tang Dynasty frequently applied the "Marriage-for-Peace" Policy to handle with the complicated relationships with ethnic groups. But Tang took such a policy once in dealing with the relationship with Nanzhao Kingdom and failed eventually. This article analyzes the failure of the policy and evaluates the policy as such so as to enrich relevant researches of the relationship between TangDynasty and Nanzhao Kingdom.
