Abstract:

The main task of Contrastive Linguistics is to reveal the major differences and similarities between languages by adopting contrastive methods，which supplies a unique perspective for translation. English is a language of hypotaxis，while Chinese is a language of parataxis，and its typical expressive style lies in topic-prominent sentences. This article tries to discuss the translation strategies of three main kinds of Chinese topic- prominent sentences chosen from Report on the Work of the Government from a contrastive linguistics perspective.
