Abstract:

Objective: To investigate correlation between intelligence and behavior of children with learning disabilities. Methods:
208 cases(IQ>70)with average scores below the tenth percentile in the class for 2 consecutive years in observation group, 200 cases in the control group with average scores of middle or higher level and the same age with the observation group. Both groups were tested and evaluated with Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist(CBCL), Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised(WISC-R)and self-designed questionnaires. Results: There was significant difference(P<0.001)between full intelligence quotient(FIQ), verbal intelligence quotient(VIQ)and performance intelligence quotient(PIQ)of the observation group and the control group. Subtests of
block(P<0.002)and jigsaw(P<0.005)also showed significant difference between the two groups(P<0.001). Conclusion: There existed unbalanced development of intelligence structure, often accompanied by psychological and behavioural problems among learning disabled children. The society, teachers and parents should accept them psychologically and give them more care and understanding so that they could grow up healthy.
