Comparative Study of Taizi Hui of Dali with Dunhuang Manuscripts

Abstract:

Through the field survey of "Taizi Hui" which is held on 8th February in Chinese Lunar Calendar in Dali Bai regions, and
the compare with Dunhuang manuscripts of Buddhist activities on 8th February, it finds that the folk activities on 8th February in Dali
Bai regions share many commons with the records in Dunhuang manuscripts, especially in the form and the event of city tour through
four gates in ancient and modern time. Although "Taizi Hui" held in Dali Bai regions differs from Dunhuang's in participants and
holding form, the essence is almost the same with the Dunhuang's in the late Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties Period. Buddhist
activities of "Taizi Hui" in Dali area shows a further development of customization of Buddhism belief throughout thousands of years.
