Abstract:

When naming things，ancient Chinese tended to endow them with cultural connotations，and this applied to wild goose. In ancient classics，the wild goose was endowed with rich cultural connotations: an omen of auspiciousness and purity， a symbol of etiquette and order，an analogy referring to virtue and ambition，or an implication of people’s understanding of life and so on. The theme of wild goose Fu (a Chinese genre of rhymed prose) absorbed the cultural meaning of wild goose in Chinese culture since the very beginning and came down in one continuous line in later generations. In medieval times， the themes of wild goose Fu mainly focused on two aspects: the understanding and thoughts of life and the beauty of wings. In Tang Dynasty，the theme of wild goose Fu continued the two aspects in the medieval times with slight changes. From Song Dynasty to Ming and Qing Dynasties，some new aspects were added to the traditional themes such as memory of the old nation，patriotism and husbands’homesickness. The authors conclude that the evolution of the themes of wild goose Fu were a process of inheritance and development with backtracks，which reflected the sharing of common values and the changes and development in time，and the themes evolved and deepened in the process of merging and exploration
