Abstract: Cultural studies in China started from Fredric R. Jameson's 4-month lectures at Peking University in 1985. In the mid 1990s, cultural studies in China made considerable progress, and at the turn of the century, developed into a prominent research subject. From the perspective of research direction, the "cultural turn" turned the researches on the theory of Chinese contemporary literature and art from "inside" to "outside". From the perspective of research methods, the "cultural turn" has turned the researches on the theory of Chinese contemporary literature and art to interdisciplinary ones. From the perspective of ideology, the researches on the theory of Chinese contemporary literature and art have developed from aesthetics-focused to politics-focused after the "cultural turn".
