Abstract: At the early years of the Qing Dynasty,Ci poets like Nalan Xingde who advocated Ci poem creation based on Xingling (human nature) were very active, but their literary ideas went on a decline due to Nanlan's death at an early age. In the Jiaqing and Daoguang Periods,Ci creation in west Zhejiang was in great trouble for the lack of emotional expression, while other different literary ideas emerged and became active in other areas like Changzhou. At that time,Yuan Tong, son of the famous Qing dynasty Ci poet Yuan Mei,together with other Jinling based Ci poets who share the same literary idea, attempted to restore Xingling theory by creating Ci poems expressing real emotions. They organized Ci poem chanting, compiled and published Ci poems, and secured a solid position in the poetic circle then. However, the Xingling theory on Ci poetry failed to develop into the main stream poetry theory mainly because it put too much emphasis on direct expression of emotions, which is against the gentle and implicit nature of Ci poetry as a literary form.
