Abstract: Through research on the space for the survival of domestic multidisciplinary science and technology academic journals, and review of the development of multidisciplinary comprehensive science and technology academic journals, this paper analyzes a series of challenges they are faced with in the context of discipline segmentation, such as weak policy support, tightened evaluation system, and the failure of listing on catalogs in professional societies. Based on the analysis, development strategies for breaking through the bottleneck are presented: journals should first do their own jobs well, including promoting the advantages of their brand reputation, soliciting targeted research paper submissions, and giving weight to disciplinary overview articles. They also need policy support, and locate an anchor point from national policies for the survival and development of journals.

Key words: comprehensive scientific and technical journals, disciplinary overview articles, evaluation system, discipline segmentation, policy support
