BALLADS IN NORTH DYNASTY AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON POETRY IN SOUTH AND TANG DYNASTY

Abstract: Ballads in North Dynasty brings into poems in South Dynasty freshness and vigor with their straightforwardness and heroic imagery and rusticity of the use of language.The combination of the two lays a foundation for Tang poems,with lasting and deep influence.Ballads in North Dynasty contribute far more than language and imagery.Frontier poems in Tang Dynasty inherit both ideology and esthetics from ballads in North Dynasty.It is such heritage that led Chinese ancient poetry into its great age: the high Tang.
