Abstract:

Georg Simmel is recognized as a sociologist，a philosopher and a modernitythinker worldwide. Studies on Georg Simmel since 1980s have basically followed the research paradigm of modernity pioneered by Divad Frisby. With the progress of study，the portraits of Georg Simmel’s thoughts become clearer. Different people see different thoughts of Georg Simmel，and labeled him differently. Each label revealed one aspect of the thoughts of Georg Simmel，but so far，no one can give a comprehensive portrait of Georg Simmel’s thoughts. The key to a breakthrough in the studies on Georg Simmel is locating the place in the intellectual history for Georg Simmel without deviating from the academic value and contemporary significance of the studies.
