Abstract:

Escaping to other countries was a common practice during the Warring States Period. Although such escape occurred less in the Warring States Period than in the Spring and Autumn Period,it is still a noteworthy phenomenon. In the Warring States Period, political struggle and war were main reasons for those escapes. Escapers would consider carefully about the destination country before they took action. Due to the differences in status among escapers and the political environment, escapers’ fates were various. Escapes in the Warring States Period was different from those in the Spring and Autumn Period in that they occurred less frequently, the social stratum of scholars being the main force, and escapes then were more of individual behavior. Such escapes quickened the collapse of patriarchal clan system and the formation of feudal bureaucracy. And on the other hand, such escapes protected talents to some extent, which promoted cultural exchange with talents as carriers.
