Abstract:

In recent years，the development of China’s domestic oilfields has gone into the midlate phase with a declining oil production，so China’s domestic oilfields have to rely more on oil and gas resources overseas. Seen from the perspective of geopolitics，Central AsiaRussia is the safest oil supplier for China，while the Middle East is the biggest supplier for China，considering the oil distribution in the world. As the biggest oil and gas producer in China，CNPC takes the responsibility for securing oil supply in China. This paper analyzes the current situation of the development of CNPC in Iraq. On the basis of SWOT analysis model，the author explores the internal strengths and weaknesses and external opportunities and challenges of the development of CNPC in Iraq，and puts forward development strategies and safeguard measures. We hold that CNPC should actively enter into the upstream sector in Iraq and make exploration and development so as to accelerate the construction of worldclass comprehensive energy companies to secure oil supply in China.
