CULTIVATING ENGLISH DUAL MAJORS′ HUMANISTIC QUALITY IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITIES THROUGH CONTENTBASED INSTRUCTION—BASIC ENGLISH COURSE AS A SUBJECT

Abstract: It is commonplace that students in science and technology universities in China today lack humanistic qualities.Based on the integration of language′s instrumentality and humanistic feature,a pedagogical project has been conducted to improve English dual major students′ humanistic quality in Southwest Petroleum University.Taking Basic English course—one of the most important courses in the preliminary stage of English majors as an example,the current paper explores,in the hope of cultivating comprehensive talents who are capable of creating and critical thinking,how to borrow Contentbased Instruction(CBI) to arrange teaching contents and design teaching procedures so as to enhance science and technology students′ humanistic qualities.
