Abstract: Based on the defects in the definition of historical phenomenology at present, this paper, using the method of phenomenology, aiming at current theories of historical phenomenology, probes into the essence of historical phenomenology from the two perspectives of historical philosophy and phenomenology. On this basis, the author reflects on some current historical phenomenon concepts in a critical manner and concludes that a theory must meet the dual requirements of historical philosophy and phenomenology to be a historical phenomenology one. It must be a systematic,general historical theory and must be based on rationality. Besides, the history must have a basic structure and the structure must be able to be observed through the phenomenological method (direct method). Among them, the first two are the requirements of historical philosophy, the third is the phenomenological requirement.

Key words: historical philosophy, phenomenology, historical phenomenology
