Abstract: Teaching writing in Chinese as a foreign language is difficult. In order to better stimulate students' motivation to learn Chinese writing, the author puts forward principles and methods of teaching Chinese writing to Southeast Asian students, aiming to solve the problems Southeast Asian students are faced with such as lacking of learning motivation, inadequate multimedia equipment, limited access to the internet, and lack of reading materials. The present paper also discusses how to use the process genre approach to efficiently teach Chinese writing, and presents suggestions on the design of writing exercises and composition correction. Through case analysis of teaching the intermediate students Chinese narrative writing, we find out two difficulties:one is that they are not accustomed to peer correcting or cooperative learning; another is that they have difficulty in grasping details. Special efforts should be made in teaching to solve those problems. Besides, we should also take measures to motivate students to write in Chinese.
