Abstract: Chuxiong basin is a Mesozoic-Cenozoic sedimentary basin developed on the basis of Upper Triassic Epoch faulting-subsiding basin. Based on the discussion of the developmental history of the basin and on the division and evaluation of tectonic units, this paper has pointed out the exploration prospects of the large gas reservoirs in Chuxiong basin. The more favourable area is in the central section of the depression, where the more favoutable tectonic belt is mouding slope. Huijiguan structure is a key trap of the gas reservoirs.It is proposed in this paper that a scientific reserach well be drilled first there.
