Abstract: 2octyl dodecyl ether is synthesized from solid sodium hydroxide,Guerbet alcohol and epichlorohydrin by phasetransfer catalysistetrabutyl ammonium.Effects of molar ratio of raw materials,amount of catalyst,reaction temperature and reaction time on the yield of 2octyl dodecyl ether are discussed.The final determined optimum conditions are that n(Guerbet alcohol)∶ n(epichlorohydrin)∶ n(Solid caustic soda)=1.00∶ 1.15∶ 1.20,the amount of catalyst is 0.05(relative to alcohol molar ratio),reaction temperature and time are at 50℃ for 4 hours.Under these conditions,2octyl dodecyl ether can be obtained at 79.8% yield rate.The epoxy value measured by hydrochloric acidacetone method is 0.232.The final product structure is confirmed by infrared spectroscopy.
