    According to the theory of sediment gravity flow that was raised in the seventies of this century, and judging from the field observations on the deposition facies and their evolution sequences of eleven sections, the so-called tillites of Sinian Period in several areas of China are divided into three kinds of gravity flow sediments: the model o abyssal gravity flow deposition in the East of Guizhou Province, the model of shallow marine gravity flow deposition in Luoquan of Henan Province and in Shang-changwan of Shanxi Provence, and the model of trausgressional gravity flow deposition in wangjiawan of Yunnan Provence. In many respects, such as the developed degree, the kinds of gravity flow, the extent of depositional facies, the depositional tectonics and the chemical compositions, they are not only distinctive but also connected entities of the gravity flow sediments.

    We have found five organic reef bodies in the same strata and I the same area since we discovered an organic reef in the strata of the Upper Permian in Beibei of Sichuan Province in 1983. We have mainly discussed one of the bodies, named Wenxin Reef In this paper. According to its paleo-biological nature and microfacies character, we have proposed that it is a kind of patch reef developed in an open lagoon. The patch reef sedimentary assemblages include:
    1. reef-core subfacies;
    2. reef-flank subfacies;
    3. inter-reef subfacies.
    Its development underwent four stages: beginning to grow in the sea-up-shallowing, and then withering in the sea-up-deepening.

    Herschel-Bulkey rheological model is one of those with three parameters. It can properly represent rheological properties of mud, cement slurry and polymer solutions over a wide range and with considerable accuracy. Based on foundational equations of rheological model, and by using extended form of power progression, this paper has derived the rheological law of fluid in horizontal rotation, and its accurate calculating expression. The error resulted from the conventional representations of rheology and the related factors have been analyzed. The extended representations of power progression is only an approximate expression, but it is adequate for engineering use. In addition, a shear-stress formula has been derived for the purpose of more accuracy.

    The maximum casing pressure which occurs during displacing a gas kick with the Driller’s Method or Engineer’s Method can be calculated by the formulas derived in this paper, in which the influences of temperature and gas deviation factor are considered. For users’ convenience BASIC programs are also presented.

    Experimental studies of the flow properties of polymer solutions in porous media by former investigators are reviewed in this paper. They suggested that polymer solutions exhibit dilatant behaviors at higher rates. However, the contribution of FRr and to resistance factors (FR) has not been evaluated. Based on the FR-V and FRr-V correlation data that were obtained from the flow tests performed by the authors, has been calculated, and the contributions of FRr and to the resistance factor have been compared. It is suggested that polymer solutions of high salinity exhibit dilatant behavior at high velocities, while those of low salinity probably exhibit pseudo-plastic. The higher the salinity of the solution, the higher the effective viscosity.

    The geometric characteristics of six representative Multifacet Drills (MFD’s) are summarized. Mathematical models of the various component surfaces are derived and analyzed by using coordinate transformations. The mathematical models of the geometric elements are used to deduce appropriate grinding methods. Computer plots of MFD’s are also presented to check the mathematical models and to lay a foundation for future work on Computer Aided Design(CAD) of MFD’s.

    OPERATING CONDITIONS AND WEAR MECHANISM OF ROCK BIT BEARINGS

    The wear mechanism of rock bit bearings is discussed on the basis of the results from a variety of experiments. Because of heavy load and low peed of rotation, it is difficult for rock bit bearings to form a fluid film between the sliding surfaces, and, therefore, they may be in boundary lubrication. The failure of rock bit bearings is mainly caused by adhesive wear, and abrasive wear. The working capacity of rock bit bearings depends on their materials, hardness, microstructure and their structure. The problem of lengthening the rock bit service life and increasing the rotation speed is also mentioned in this article.

    Because of the special operating conditions of the charging pump, its structure and performance are different from those of centrifugal pumps in common use. In this paper, based on the problems in use, various types of casings of charging pumps used in our oilfield are analyzed. It is considered that a single-volute charging pump has more troubles. The modified circular-casing centrifugal pump would be more suitable for the charging pump chosen as the triplex pump.
