《妻妾成群》是中国深深庭院里女人斗争的缩略图，在男性强权文化的压制和女性自身反抗意识的缺失下，颂莲从一个清纯的女大学生最后变成了疯癫的可怜女人。运用精神分析学理论对颂莲进行剖析，她潜意识里的性欲望、焦虑以及自我与本我难以调和的冲突注定了她的悲惨结局。
Wives and Concubines is a miniature of Chinese women's struggles in deep courtyard. Because of the oppression of cultural power and the lack of awareness of women's resistance, Songlian became a poor woman of mad from a pure university student. By use of psychoanalysis, her sexual desire, anxiety and irreconcilable conflict between ego and id in her subconscious doomed her tragic ending.
