As a famous prose writer, ZHANG Dai's prose work Pottery Recall by Buddhist Nunnery Dreams represents the acme of
the late Ming Dynasty short essay. Written in a clear and lively style, the writer describes large amount of common affairs and secular persons in this book, brief but meaningful, with obvious poetic sentiment appearing from words and lines. And all these grew out of ZHANG's love of the secular life, his meditation on life and profound cultural accumulation. In this book, he expressed his personality ideal of free development through the description of marketplace "worldling". He proclaimed the life and art outlook of expressing spirit and thought in specific events. He permeated other artistic expressions into his works.
