Abstract:

An improved approach and procedure in the measurement of regional specialization disparities in scientific and technical service (abbreviated as STS) industry was proposed and applied in different municipals and prefectures in Yunnan Province. We first introduced employment time-series based location quotient (abbreviated as LQ) analysis to obtain sample data on the characterization and distribution of specialization across the STS industry. Through both point and interval estimation of the mean of the LQs，we discovered that significant regional differences do exist in the industrial specialization levels. Analysis of variance further confirmed this finding. We then measured the comparative advantages between any two regions by multiple comparison analysis，and the results showed significant specialization discrepancies and advantage mismatches between regions and the need of STS specialization for a
number of regions in Yunnan Province.
