Abstract:

Studying the naming method of royal temples in the Qing dynasty from the perspective of semiotics is to examine issues
such as Qing dynasty's border governance situation, Buddhist cultural connotation, and the structure of the discourse of politics and religion through semiotic methods based on the logic of the Sinicization of Buddhism. Yonghe Gong Lama Temple is the most complete religious activity site and patriotic education base in Beijing, which still has the most complete Buddhist activities, unique historical status, prosperous religious culture, and monks residing in the temple. However, its naming method still needs to be discussed. From a semiotic point of view, the Temple is a huge symbolic system composed of complex signifiers and signified interconnected. The research method of semiotics is precisely to distinguish the meaning structure from the image or language and to complete the establishment of meaning. Therefore, this paper intends to take the Yonghe Gong Lama Temple as an example, analyze the naming method of the Temple through the relevant theories of the symbolic system and Jacobson's six-element model, and explore the significance of the organization of the symbolic text itself in forging the sense of community of the Chinese nation and promoting the construction of a common spiritual home of the Chinese nation.
